Why Woodworkers Need a Quality Stirrer

Jason Brown Wood Floors Quality Stirrer

A quality stirrer is essential for woodworkers to make it easier to mix materials such as resin and plaster.

Whether you’re a professional or hobbyist woodworker, there are a lot of important tools you need to have on hand to make every project easier and smoother. It can be frustrating trying to figure out which tools you absolutely need and which ones you can invest in a bit later. A quality stirrer, such as the Festool Mixer MX 1200 E EF, is a must-have for every woodworker because it allows you to mix many different materials.

Epoxy Resin

Epoxy resin is used as a common wood coating for floors, tables, and other projects. Epoxy resin is actually made up of two components that need to be stirred once you’re ready to apply it. For larger projects, you’ll need a lot of resin, and stirring by hand just isn’t feasible. Having a quality stirrer makes this process a lot easier and provides a smooth resin to avoid lumps or bubbles that will ruin the look of your piece.

Thick Fillers

If you need to mix thick fillers and highly viscous materials, a stirrer is absolutely necessary. When you try to mix mortar and plaster by hand, it will take an unreasonably long time, and it will give you hand cramps and arm pain long before it gives you a smooth material to work with. Having the appropriate quality stirrer will make this an easy and fast process.

Self-Leveling Fillers

Self-leveling fillers need to avoid having too much air added to them, and they’re very difficult to stir correctly—even with a stirrer. You need just the right stirring arm to keep air out of the mixture and prevent damage that will inevitably cause lumps and dry portions of material that aren’t usable.

Low-Viscosity Materials

For woodworkers, low-viscosity materials include clear coats and wallpaper paste, along with dispersion adhesives. All of these materials need to be carefully stirred in a specific way for the best results, so a quality stirrer is a must whenever you’re working with them.
