Believe it or not, you can install hardwood floors over different types of subfloors. Of course, it will also depend on the type of underlayment you want to use. How do you make this work? Let’s find out!
Remove Other Layers
Start by removing any other layers that could interfere with the project. This means you will need to move laminate flooring or carpets that are already there. You can rely on the experience of the team here at Jason Brown Wood Floors to help you out!
Protect Floors Against Moisture
The next step is to protect your floors against potential moisture damage. You have probably heard this before, but being too wet is just as bad for any plank of wood as being too dry. Both conditions cause their own particular set of problems. Any problems that crop up can delay the project. Floating hardwood floors will have moisture barriers. For nailed floors, you will need to add some moisture barriers. This is meant to protect the subfloors as well. Since glued flooring is attached to the subfloor itself, you will need to add several heavy coats of moisture barriers. This is probably best left to the professionals to ensure optimal results.
Begin Laying Out the New Floors
After all of that is taken care of, you can start laying out the new hardwood floors that you want to install. Floating floorboards come together like separate pieces of a puzzle that form a greater whole; measure the room to make sure that you have enough flooring since you don’t want to have too much or not enough. This can also slow the project.
