Taking care of the hardwood floors in your home doesn’t need to be complicated. It might turn out to be much easier than you assume. Even so, there are some factors that you need to be aware of when it’s time to maintain your brand new hardwood floor.
Wood Color
The color of the wood can make it more beautiful. So be careful not to ruin it while refinishing the wood or getting it repainted. Darker floors show their scratches more easily. They also tend to show dirt and other stains as well, unless they are covered up with a fresh coating of finish. This means that these wood floors should be saved for rooms with low levels of foot traffic. Moving furniture around on them would be a bad idea too.
Indoor Humidity
Humidity is typically considered to be a bigger problem during the spring and summer than it is in the fall and winter. However, because of how dry the colder seasons can get, many homeowners will decide to run humidifiers. Humidity and moisture can ruin any hardwood floor.
The Hardness
At first, hardness wouldn’t sound like something that matters. But that doesn’t make it any less important; denser wood is much more durable. Balsa wood is the softest one on the scale, while the hardest one is called Australian Buloke.
Wood Finish
Damaging the finish on your hardwood floor can affect how good it looks. Satin, matte, and glossy finishes are the three most common finishes that most homeowners choose. You’ll also have to think about the base of the finish – is it oil-based or acrylic? These questions are crucial ones to answer if you want your floors to last even longer than you thought possible.
